Saying goodbye is never easy, but this time it’s especially hard. Wendy has been with us since June 2008 and she has not only been a great team member - she has been a top performer also. Wendy has built solid relationships with clients and candidates alike. Wendy’s husband accepted a position in New Zealand and she will be joining him to start a new life abroad. We wish them both well but we know Wendy will make a success of everything she does. She will be sorely missed by all!!
Welcome to new staff members
Since the beginning of the year we have had the priviledge to welcome 4 new permanent staff members to our team. Gugu Mbatha started in January, Yvonne Myeni in February, Monet Haynes in May and Belinda Mohr started in July 2009. We are blessed beyond measure to have such a strong dedicated team ad wish everyone a long and happy career at The Personal Link!
We stay open during this Festive season
Just to let you all know that The Personal Link will not be closing this year. We will be available for business right through to 2009 should you wish to send your CV, have an interview or need a staff member (permanent or temp).
May we take this opportunity to wish all our clients and candidates a blessed Christmas and our wish is that we will all experience a very prosperous 2009. May everyone that come into contact with The Personal Link not only experience our special personalized service, but also share and become part of our blessing!
We will continue to dream and expect only the best. I am reminded of something that Jesse du Plantis said: ” We do not live in the past, because the past has no future. The poorest man on earth is not the one without a dime, it’s the one without a dream!”
Let’s continue to dream big and expect nothing else but the best.
A big thank you to the great Personal Link team, clients and candidates that has made 2008 a memorable year.
Warm Christmas wishes
Marinda Haynes
Our new office
In August 2008, we had the priviledge to move into our new office! From a mere 80 square meters, we now have 200 squares all to ourselves. All the renovations (adequately performed by M & M Home Improvers) have been completed, and it’s business as usual for the great Personal Link team! (The only problem we have is trying to get rid of the doggies that feel it’s their duty to come to work everyday…)
Apart from that, we would like to welcome you to pop in and visit us for a coffee. We are proud of our new office and photo’s will follow shortly. Watch this space
My CV (How do I prepare a CV?)
We often receive CV’s and find it necessary to phone for more details - herewith then a few pointers to assist you!
Please ensure that your CV to an agency include at least the following detail -
1)The Position you are applying for or the advert you are responding to. Did you know that if you are not “invited” via an ad to respond, your CV can be seen as unsolicited, and by law the agency does not have to respond to you with a regret. Make sure you have matched your CV to the minimum requirements as specified in the ad. That way it makes it much easier for the agency to do the screening as per their client’s requirements.
2) Personal detail - should include your name, surname, nick name if you have one, contact detail - more than one telephone number is a good idea (mention your preferred contact details, for e.g dont phone me at the office or my wife’s number is, etc). Your email details will be a good idea.
3) Educational info - your highest qualification is necessary, but for chronology it will be a good idea to give details of your last year and qualification at school, and any other applicable courses, certificates and / or diploma’s you have achieved.
4) Work history. Company name (you are welcome to add the type of industry you are in), your current position title (if you have previous positions at the company, mention them as well), dates, duties and reason for leaving
5) Your dates. Please try and give a chronological order of all the positions you have had since school. Try and remember the dates, and by dates we mean month and year. We understand if there have been periods of unemployment - make a note of them too.
6) Reasons for leaving - just as important if not the most! If you have been retrenched, state reasons for the company retrenching - either LIFO, or restructuring or for financial reasons. If for example you left a company for personal reasons, please try and be as frank a possible with your consultant. Remember they are there to also assist you in your quest for a new career, and can only help you if they have enough information.
7) Duties / KPI’s / KPA’s - without this information it is very difficult to screen candidates for the righth position. Having the info at hand means a consultant can with confidence sell a candidate based on their experience. For example, if you have worked with PLC’s - name them and also your level of involvement be it faultfinding or programming. If you do credit control, mention if you have done recons, phoned for outstanding money, etc. If you leave out important info, you might be overlooked if recruitment consultants do matching. It is a good idea to mention all the tasks you are busy with for more than 10% of your time.
8) Salary expectations - please let your consultant know what your present package is (including benefits and allowances. Also what you expect to earn. This is the reason we ask for salary slips - to work out a cost to company figure including benefits to assist us in negotiating the best package we can for you.
9) Referees - do not include your present company in your list of referees if they are not aware you are looking. Nobody is allowed to check your references without your approval, but it is still safer not to include your current manager. A referee should not be a colleague, a friend, a sibling or a subordinate. It is best to provide the name of someone you have had a direct reporting line, be it a person that has left the company you are with or a previous employer.
10) Are you prepared to relocate? This information will also assist a consultant trying to find the best position for you. Please bear in mind that a recruitment consultant is not allowed to refer your CV to a client without your prior knowledge and consent.
For more info or advise on your CV, call anytime. We can always send you a blank CV to assist you in putting your CV together
